Notification Requirements:
Your child may return to a public school at any time. You must notify Odyssey within five (5) business days if your child:
- Returns to a public school that is not a qualifying provider, or
- Takes courses from the public portion of a qualifying provider
If your child returns to public school, you must opt out of the UFA program.
How to Opt Out:
- Log in to your Odyssey Parent Portal
- Go to your student's profile
- Click [Opt Out]
What Happens to Your Funds:
If your student enters or reenters the public education system during a school year, you forfeit the UFA funds per (§53F-6-402(4)(b). This applies if your child returns to a public school that is not a qualifying provider or if you have elected to take courses from the public portion of a qualifying provider.
The same applies if you exit the UFA Scholarship Program during the school year for any reason. Under Utah law, any remaining funds will be removed from your student's account and reallocated within the same year. You will not receive additional funding for that school year. No awards are issued in the fourth quarter.
Odyssey will conduct checks with the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) to verify if UFA participants are also enrolled in public school.
If a student leaves the program and wants to return next year, they will be prioritized as if they were a new student and not a returning student.
Reallocation of Funds:
Odyssey may make forfeited funds available for new scholarship awards within the same year. Any new scholarship award made during the same year and using funds from an exited student's account will be prorated as follows:
- If awarded during the second quarter of the school year, no more than 75% of the annual scholarship amount is allocated.
- If awarded during the third quarter of the school year, no more than 50% of the annual scholarship amount is allocated.
- No new scholarship awards will be made during the fourth quarter of the school year.
Verification:
Odyssey conducts checks with the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) to verify if UFA participants are also enrolled in public school.
