UFA Update from Odyssey - 07/02/2025

Overview of Odyssey's marketplace, tuition, and reimbursement approach for the UFA program, including full reimbursement policy details for the transition period and 2025-2026 school year.

This update provides an overview of how the Odyssey Marketplace, tuition payments, and reimbursements will work for Utah Fits All (UFA) families.

Marketplace

Odyssey prioritizes a parent-friendly and marketplace-first approach when distributing state funds. Items are pre-approved before being loaded into the marketplace, meaning all purchases are compliant with state law. Parents do not need to front any funds and there is no risk of not receiving money back. The marketplace can house thousands of unique vendors, from big box retailers like Amazon to local service providers.

Tuition

Once approved, students can select their school in the portal from a dropdown list of eligible schools. After a student balance is funded, tuition payments can be made to an eligible school registered on Odyssey's platform. Tuition payments and reimbursements will not be made to non-approved schools. If a UFA student wishes to attend a non-approved school that is not an LEA, they will be categorized as a home-based learning student and still receive funds.

Reimbursements

The reimbursement portal will open on August 21st, the same date as the Marketplace launch. There will be no preapproved reimbursements — each must be individually submitted and reviewed. Odyssey strongly encourages parents to utilize the marketplace for purchases as it ensures the quickest and safest method of transacting.

Reimbursement Policy: Transition Period (Jan 1 – Aug 20, 2025)

Parents may submit reimbursements for purchases made from January 1, 2025 through August 20, 2025. All reimbursements for this period must be submitted by September 30, 2025. Submissions must include vendor name, description, date, amount, itemized receipt, educational explanation, and consent that the item was not already reimbursed by the previous provider.

Reimbursement Policy: 2025-2026 School Year (Beginning August 21, 2025)

  • Ride Fees: Fares for a fee-for-service transportation provider to a qualifying provider, not to exceed $750 per school year.

  • Assessment Test Fees: Test fees for assessments are reimbursable with required documentation.

  • Internet Fees: Fees for internet service used in the education of a student, for the service period covered by the scholarship.

  • Fees for Extracurricular Activities or Enrichment Classes: Must be for an educational purpose (e.g., museum admission, sports programs, educational day camps).

  • Other Educational Expenses: Any product or service not listed above may be submitted under 'Other' and is subject to Odyssey review. Purchases made in the marketplace are guaranteed to be accepted.
