What are the Testing Requirements to Participate in the LA GATOR Program?

This article helps Louisiana parents to understand testing requirements for the program.

LA GATOR rules (§1525) require the annual administration of the following for participating students:

  • assessment in ELA and mathematics required pursuant to the school and district accountability system at the prescribed grade level; or

  • a nationally norm-referenced test or assessment in ELA and mathematics approved by BESE and provided by the participating school or, as applicable, service provider.

Students may choose to take the Louisiana State Assessment or one of the following national norm-referenced assessments:

  • California Achievement Test [K - 12]

  • NWEA/MAP [K - 12]

  • CLT (Classical Learning Test) [3 - 12]

  • Iowa – Test of Basic Skills [K - 12]

  • College Board’s SAT [11 - 12]

  • PSAT [8 - 11]

  • Pre-ACT [8 - 10]

  • ACT [10 - 12]

  • Stanford Achievement Test [K - 12]

  • TerraNova [K - 12]

  • LEAP [3 - 10]

  • DIBELS (ELA) [K-2]

Failure to complete the required testing could affect the student's eligibility for the program in future years.
