This article explains how to confirm your student’s participation in the Texas Education Freedom Accounts program.
Opting In/Out Information:
Opting in means you plan to use scholarship funds and will abide by all TEFA rules and policies. Your student cannot attend a public or charter school while accepting TEFA program funds.
Step 1: Open the Confirmation Window

- Log in to your Parent Portal
- On your dashboard, locate the Announcements panel on the right
- Find the message about opting in
- Click “Confirm participation”
Step 2: Review Student Selection
- A “Confirm Student Participation” window will open

Your eligible students will already be selected as opting in Review the students listed
Step 3: Continue
After checking both boxes, click “Continue”
Step 4: Final Confirmation
- Review the students listed on the confirmation screen
- Click “Confirm” to complete your selection
Step 5: View Updated Status
- After confirming, you will return to your dashboard
- Your student’s status will update to “Approved”
New Statuses You May See
When the opt-in window opens, you may notice new application statuses in your parent portal. Here’s what each one means:
| Status | What It Means |
| Approved, Awaiting Opt-In | Your student is eligible. No opt-in selection has been made. |
| Approved | You opted in. Your student is approved to receive funding for the upcoming school year. |
| Opted Out | You opted out. Your student will not receive funding for this program year. |
