This guide outlines the different types of status that are relevant to a student’s program eligibility, school enrollment process and tuition payments.
1. Application Statuses: Does the student meet the criteria for program participation?
These status’ are for a student’s application and whether or not they meet the program’s eligibility criteria and if they will receive funding.
Note: An Eligible status does not mean the student is approved for funding yet. It simply means that they meet the program’s criteria for participation.
| Status | Meaning for the Parent |
| Eligible | The student qualifies for the program based on initial criteria. This is NOT an approval for funding. Final approval decisions are based on the total amount of program funding available and the student’s overall priority level. |
| Under Review | The Odyssey Verification Team is reviewing documentation to determine eligibility. |
| Ineligible | The student does not meet program requirements for the current year. |
| Approved - Awaiting Opt-In | The student is qualified and prioritized for funding, but the parent must still manually "Opt-In" to receive funds. Opting-in means to re-affirm that the parent and student will abide by all program rules and regulations. |
| Approved - On Hold | The application is approved, but funding is paused due to additional investigation being required (requires agent investigation). |
| Approved | The student meets all requirements, has opted in, and is eligible for ESA funding/marketplace access. |
| Opted Out | The student will not receive funds for the program year by choice of the parent. |
| Closed | The application was closed due to an error or duplicate. A new application is usually required. |
2. Enrollment Statuses: Connection to the School
Once a parent selects a school in the portal, the school must verify the student. This means that the school has accepted the child’s enrollment through their normal application process, or they intend to accept this student through their normal application process. This process is intended to designate what school the student will attend within the Odyssey system. The parent still needs to follow their intended school’s application process and ensure that the student is officially enrolled outside of Odyssey
| No Label / Pending | The school has not yet taken action. The parent should contact the school to verify enrollment. |
| Verified / Enrolled | The school confirms the student is attending. |
| Action Needed | The school must now set the tuition amount. |
| Denied | The school has rejected the enrollment. Parents can choose a different school or contact the school to see if it was an error. |
| Closed | The student has switched to a different school, or an agent/parent closed the request. |
3. Payment & Tuition Statuses: Getting Funds to the School
Crucial Point: Confirming tuition does not mean the money is automatically sent.
| Pending Payment | The school has set the tuition amount. |
| Action Needed | The parent must log in to "Accept" or "Reject" the amount. |
| Tuition Confirmed | The parent agrees the amount is correct. This action means the parent agrees to the annual tuition. This does not constitute sending tuition. When the marketplace opens, parents will need to login to Odyssey and send their tuition payment on behalf of the student. |
| Payment Denied | The parent disagreed with the amount. The school must now edit and resubmit the tuition. |
| Paid Out / Paid | The payment has been processed, and the funds have been transferred to the school. |
| Withdrew / Did Not Attend | Used for students who left the school or never arrived after tuition was confirmed. |
Note: It is very to recognize that “tuition confirmed” simply means agreement on the annual tuition amount. Parents will need to login to Odyssey and send tuition from their student’s digital wallet. The school has not received payment until the status reads as Paid Out or Paid. Some programs require tuition payment on set cadences, so please ensure you are sending payments in accordance with program timelines.
Duplicate Applications
If a parent sees different statuses for the same child, they likely have a duplicate application. The school might be verifying the "wrong" one.
