My Student is in an Approved On Hold Status, What Do I Do?

This article is intended to help Louisiana families understand what to do if their student is in an Approved On Hold status.
 

What does Approved On Hold mean? 

An Approved On Hold status means that the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) has flagged your student as cross-enrolled in a public school or BESE-Approved Home Study Program. Per LA guidelines, a student doesn't qualify for the LA GATOR Scholarship Program if they're enrolled in a public school or in a BESE-Approved Home Study Program or Home Study Program Registered with the LDOE as a Nonpublic School Not Seeking State Approval. LDOE will periodically re-run its cross-enrollment checks and share updated information with Odyssey. However, if you would like to resolve the issue sooner, follow the steps below that match your situation:


Public School Cross-enrollment: 

Situation What to Do
Student is currently enrolled in a nonpublic school and wants to continue in LA GATOR
  1. Log in to the Odyssey Account and ensure you have selected the nonpublic school in the school selection dropdown and that the school has verified your student's enrollment request. 
  2. Have the nonpublic school send Odyssey the student's attendance report through this form. 
Student is currently a Home-based Education student and wants to continue in LA GATOR 
  1. Log in to the Odyssey Account and ensure you have selected the “Home-based Education” option in the school selection dropdown. 
  2. Send Odyssey the public school withdrawal form. 
Student is currently enrolled in a public school, but wants to continue in LA GATOR as a nonpublic school student
  1. Verify that the nonpublic school you're interested in is in the Odyssey school selection dropdown. 
  2. Enroll your student in the school. 
  3. Log in to the Odyssey Account and select the nonpublic school through the school selection dropdown.
  4.  Have the nonpublic school verify the enrollment request. 
  5. Withdraw from the public school. 
  6. Have the nonpublic school send Odyssey the student's attendance report through this form. 
Student is currently enrolled in a public school, but wants to continue in LA GATOR as a Home-based Education student
  1. Log in to the Odyssey Account and ensure you have selected the “Home-based Education” option in the school selection dropdown. 
  2. Withdraw from the public school. 
  3. Send Odyssey the withdrawal form.
Student is currently enrolled in a public school and will continue there
  1. Log in to your Odyssey Account. 
  2. Opt out of the LA GATOR Scholarship Program.

BESE-Approved Home Study Cross-enrollment: 

Situation What to Do
Student is currently enrolled in a BESE-Approved Home Study Program or a Home Study Program Registered with LDOE as a Nonpublic School Not Seeking State Approval, but wants to continue in LA GATOR
  1. Log in to the Odyssey Account and ensure you have selected the “Home-based Education” option in the school selection dropdown. 
  2. Withdraw from the BESE-Approved Home Study Program or Home Study Program Registered with LDOE as a Nonpublic School Not Seeking State Approval: 
    1. Complete the form, attest, and sign. Here is the link to the withdrawal form: BESE-Approved Home Study Application Withdrawal. 
    2. The Home Study Coordinator will withdraw the student and provide you with a denial letter. 
    3. LDOE will inform Odyssey once the cross-enrollment issue is resolved. 
    4. Keep a copy of the denial letter for your records.
Student is currently enrolled in a BESE-Approved Home Study Program or a Home Study Program Registered with LDOE as a Nonpublic School Not Seeking State Approval, and will continue there
  1. Log in to your Odyssey Account. 
  2. Opt out of the LA GATOR Scholarship Program.

If your student is flagged as cross-enrolled in both a public school and a BESE-Approved Home Study Program, please complete the steps for each applicable situation above.
 

After you complete the required steps, Odyssey will review your student's account and update the status accordingly.
