Testing Rules and Enrollment Tips for the Georgia Promise Scholarship

What is the Georgia Promise Scholarship?
The Georgia Promise Scholarship helps families pay for private school tuition and other costs. If your child is eligible, they can get financial support to attend a participating private school.

Who Can Join the Program?
Private schools that want to accept Georgia Promise Scholarship students must follow certain rules, especially about student testing. Schools can choose which grade levels to accept scholarship students for.

Grade Levels and Testing Rules

  • Kindergarten to 2nd Grade: If a child is in these grades, they must be tested every year to stay in the program.

  • 3rd to 8th Grade: These students follow the school’s usual testing rules. Schools don't need to do extra testing for them.

If a school doesn’t want to test K-2 students, it can decide to only accept scholarship students in grades 3-8. The school must make this clear on its website and in its application forms.

How Can Schools Customize Their Program?
Schools can set their own rules for which grades they accept. For example, if a school only tests students in grades 3-8, they can decide not to accept Georgia Promise Scholarship students in K-2. This allows schools to avoid extra testing.

Steps for Schools

  1. Update School Policy: Add a note in the school’s admissions information to say they only accept scholarship students in grades 3-8.

  2. Inform Parents: Let parents know about the policy through email, website updates, and school events.

  3. Update Application Forms: Make sure the school’s application clearly says which grades are accepted for scholarship students.
