This article is for Georgia families who want to learn more about the Opt-In/Opt-Out process.
Step 1: Open the Confirmation Window
After your student is marked as Approved-Awaiting Opt-In, please login to your Parent Portal. You’ll see a yellow banner at the top of your dashboard. Click the banner to begin.
Step 2: Review the Participation Window
You will see a pop-up titled Confirm Student Participation. This confirms your eligibility and begins the selection process.
Step 3: Make Your Selections
Each eligible student is listed. Use the checkboxes to select either Opt-In or Opt-Out for each one.
- You can select for one student or multiple students at a time.
- You are not required to make a decision for all students immediately.
Step 4: Understand Locked or Grayed-Out Statuses
Some students may have already opted out and cannot be changed.

Other students who previously opted in may only see the option to opt out.

Step 5: Complete Required Consents
Before submitting, you must check both consent boxes:
- Confirming you’re accepting Georgia Promise funds under your legal responsibility
- Authorizing the Georgia Department of Education to access education records

⚠️ If these boxes are not checked, the Confirm button will remain inactive.
Step 6: Confirm Your Decision
Click Confirm once you’ve made your selections and checked the required boxes.
You’ll receive a final confirmation before your selection is submitted.
Step 7: View the Updated Status
Once confirmed, your student’s status will update automatically in the dashboard.

New Statuses You May See
When the opt-in window opens, you may notice new application statuses in your parent portal. Here’s what each one means:
| Status | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Approved, Awaiting Opt-In | Your student is eligible. No selection has been made yet. |
| Approved | You opted in. Your student is approved for the program. |
| Opted Out | You opted out. Your student will not receive funding for this program year. |
Changing Your Mind?
If you already opted-in/out for all of your students, please contact our Support Team. If you have not yet finalized your selection for all your students, then you can use these following steps:
- Return to your dashboard
- Click the yellow banner again
- Select Opt-Out for the previously Opted-in Student and confirm
Important:
🔁 Once a student is opted out, their participation is forfeited for the current program year. You will need to reapply during the next cycle if you'd like them to participate again.
If you believe an error was made, and a student was Opted-Out by mistake, please contact our support team.
