Do law enforcement families have different requirements?
Yes. Children of active sworn law enforcement officers qualify as a priority group so income verification documents are not applicable. You still need to submit the general identity, residency, and enrollment documents.
What additional documents does a law enforcement family need to submit?
- Agency-issued law enforcement ID or badge
- Employment letter on official agency letterhead — signed by HR or department head; must confirm active sworn status and role title
- FDLE certification card — Florida Department of Law Enforcement certificate of compliance
Who qualifies as a law enforcement officer?
Under s. 943.10(1) F.S., a qualifying law enforcement officer must be elected, appointed, or employed full time by the State of Florida or a Florida municipality or political subdivision; vested with authority to bear arms and make arrests; and have a primary responsibility of prevention and detection of crime or enforcement of penal, criminal, traffic, or highway laws. Certified supervisory and command personnel are also included if their duties involve supervising, training, or managing law enforcement officers.
